my housemate finally stopped feeding her Horrible Pile Of Rotting Food in the backyard. her "compost pile" (she did not turn it or anything. it was just a pile of rotten food and she claimrd shed use it for fertiliser while never doing that bc she constantly feed it & it was always covered in pests & smelt horrible & so on). like, there's a reason composting is done the way it is (you bury it & turn it regularly), it's bc if u leave a pile of rotting food outside you'll attract BAD insects that you don't want. like flies that will lay eggs & now your compost is full of maggots.
but another thing abt the bad insects is... they spread disease to your plants!! and eat your plants too!! all of our plants around the Compost Pile wete getting chewed on it frustrated me so fucking much but she did not give a fuckkkk. and i wouldn't be surprised if that's also part of how her mulberry trees got this disease.
but anyway so now we use my worm farm which is much better. i am still trying to get her to be reasonable about it bc she is like. for someone who acts like shes such a clean freak perfectionist she is lazy as hell when it comes to doing like the most minimal thing to make the worm farm better. like i tell her to cut her scraps into small pieces and she judt Refuses to do it for some damn reason likr she isn't already cutting up the vegetables so cutting up the scraps isn't going to be that difficult. and she has a jar she puts them in on the counter and i tell her "its better to put them in th freezer so flies dont get to them" no she doesnt care so they get maggots in them. like girl. it takes zero effort.
